For the best result, switch your phone to slow-motion (ideally 240 fps, at least 120 fps), film the ball from the side at a steady angle, and use plenty of light. A high frame rate reduces motion blur and makes the measurement far more stable.
Slow-motion on your phone
- iPhone: Camera → “SLO-MO” tab. For 240 fps: Settings → Camera → Record Slo-mo → “1080p at 240 fps”.
- Samsung (Galaxy): Camera → More → “Super Slow-mo” or “Slow motion”.
- Google Pixel: Camera → “Slow motion”.
- Xiaomi/Redmi: Camera → “More” → “Slow motion”.
Angle and setup
- Keep the camera perpendicular to the ball’s path (side-on); shots travelling toward/away from the camera mislead the speed.
- Use a tripod if you can; a steady frame makes tracking easier.
- Keep the ball in frame for the whole flight; don’t zoom in too far.
Light
Dim settings cause motion blur. Daylight outdoors or a well-lit hall is ideal.
Length
A clip under 30 seconds containing just the shot is enough. You can trim it in the app.
